Tucker Torpedo

Several of you sent in your guess as to what the Tucker Torpedo convertible would sell for at the Russo & Steele auction in Scottsdale. This car is full of controversy. When I sent out the last newsletter about the convertible going up for auction, I got a few emails from my friends at the Tucker Automobile Club of America. According to the club, this car doesn’t exist or at least they have not found anything that would prove its existence. This all makes for a great story. If you surf the TACA website, you will find that every Tucker is accounted for which begs the question, where did this car come from? If you surf the Tucker convertible website, this car was a prototype and was stamped #57. Both sites have several pieces of history showing the existence and/or non-existence. The next question is why would Benchmark Classics (the owner of this infamous Tucker) not get the “blessing” of the club? I mean, if they have nothing to hide, then the club and its members would be ecstatic to see this car. However, the car does exist, which is a pretty good argument to the contrary. So, what does it all mean? I have no idea. It seems like there is a very, very valuable tribute car that may have some provenance but can’t be proven. Tell me what you think.

I do know this, that I got screwed in going to see the car. Mother Nature came through Scottsdale with a vengeance on that Thursday. She literally blew a huge tent right off and across the 101 freeway. The storm closed down the auction on Friday and Saturday. The auction resumed on Sunday with the Tucker crossing the block at about 7:30pm. Nobody was hurt, but I can’t say that for the cars. Take a look at the video on my home page.

Brings tears to my eyes. I was planning to go see the car on Saturday and shoot some video, but that all changed when the car crossed the block on Sunday.

Oh, I almost forgot, out of 124 submissions, ranging from $110k to over $2.5 million, the winning member that guessed closest to the actual high bid of $1.4 million without going over was….drum roll…..

Mike Mosher!

He guessed right on the money and wins a $50 gas card! Congratulations Mike! By the way, the Tucker did not sell. The seller had a reserve closer to $2 million.

Twitter

I don’t know why you would want to follow me, but I created a Twitter account to increase the awareness of my site. My “handle” is @carcommunity, so if you want to follow me, I will post a whole bunch of funny stuff that I see on a daily basis. I live in the collector car capital of the nation, so there will be a lot of great tweets.

Yeah, I said it…tweets.

Next newsletter….Poor Prius…poor little Prius.  I jump a Prius.
