Roadside Assistance Plans Available for Classic Cars

If you are one of the millions of people that have a classic car, you have probably shopped around at one time or another for auto insurance. If it has been a while since you gathered any quotes, consider seeing what is out there and what each plan now includes. You may be surprised that some include – or have a low-cost add-on option for – roadside assistance coverage.

Why It’s Needed

Every driver on the road can benefit from a  car roadside assistance plan,  especially those with classic cars. The last thing you want to have happen with your “baby” is to be stuck sitting on the side of the road if something happens. And let’s face it, in today’s society, walking off to find the nearest gas station may not be the safest of choices, especially when, for a low fee, many insurance companies offer roadside plans that can bring you piece of mind and get you back on the road faster than you realized was possible.

Most insurance companies and some automobile clubs offer roadside assistance plans for a small fee. With most of those policies costing $35 per year and up, it may add up to a small fraction of what you would otherwise pay if you were to call out a tow truck or other resources to help. One of the benefits of using a roadside plan is that they are usually available during emergencies, at any hour of the day or night.

Roadside Benefits

Having a roadside plan is kind of like having a big brother in your back pocket, one that can come out and help you out anytime you end up stranded with your vehicle. Some of the main features that programs usually cover include:

• Changing your flat tires.

• Jump-starting Your Vehicle's battery.

• Unfreezing locks.

• Having gas brought to you if you run out.

• Helping with your lost keys.

• Filling up empty necessary automobile fluids, such as oil.

• Getting you in if you’re locked out of your vehicle.

• Having a vehicle towed away.

Piece of Mind

Even if you never end up using the roadside assistance, you may find that having it brings you a wealth of peace of mind. It can take some of the worry out of driving long distances, or driving at night, because it helps ensure that someone will be there to help you if you find yourself in need.

One thing you do want to be aware of, however, is that the service may have limits, such as how far you can have a vehicle towed. Some insurance companies may also increase your premiums if you use the roadside service often, as they equate it with filing a claim. Before signing up with such a company’s program, gather some quotes, compare prices, and find out about their policy regarding those who actually use the service.
