The sexiest car ever made!
A couple of months ago I wrote about the ugliest cars ever made and judging by the huge response I received it definitely was an exciting topic to write about. So, I was struggling with what to write about next and I decided to flip the question and ask “what is the sexiest car ever made?”
To tackle this question I think we need to start off with some basic rules on what makes a car sexy.
First, obviously is the styling. I think what makes a car sexy are some great curves and beautiful lines. Does everyone agree with that? No? I don’t care, it’s my article. With that, I think it is safe to eliminate all of those boxy cars and straight lines. That eliminates every car from the eighties.
Second, I think a car must have power. Let me put it this way, if the car is more attractive with a beefier engine then it should have been born with it. Take Tori Spelling, although she looks better now (questionable) she wasn’t born with them…er…those…I mean her nose and all that other plastic stuff. So, all of those cars who have the right curves but lack the power, you’re out.
Third, I think popularity must be considered. In other words, how can the sexiest car in the world have the curves, have the power and flop in sales? So that eliminates those cars that have great racing provenance and zero street going publicity.
Finally, I think the car has to be sexy in any form. What I mean is, if it is a four door, convertible, or wagon, it should still look great. Think of this way, have you ever seen Eva Longoria without makeup? Brrrrrrrr.
So, the car has to have curves, has to have a powerful engine, must have sold out and be desirable and look good in both convertible and coupe forms. Let’s face it, the car I narrowed it down to probably didn’t come as a wagon or four door.
The first car that is always discussed as one of the most beautiful cars in the world is the Bugatti Type 57. I love the curves, it was one of the most powerful cars of its time and they didn’t make a convertible so it looks good in any form. However, they only made 3. I know it was because it was ridiculously expensive but we have to stick to the rules. Remember, without rules…there’s CHAOS!
Next, the Shelby Cobra. I know its got great curves, I know it has great power and I know it sold well (I’m including all the replicas). However, it’s just too powerful. Think of it this way, when you see those woman body builders on ESPN, do you say to yourself “now there’s a good looking man!” Get my point.
As for all of the other American muscle out there, many of them lack the styling that those damn Europeans do so well. Sorry Mustangs, Cameros, Cudas, GTOs, Corvettes etc.
Now comes the Lotus’s…Lotusi…Lotuses…whatever. Too straight in the max wedge form so they are out.
Aston Martin DB4 to DB9, not enough sold so they are out, plus those spokes wheels were ugly.
Lamborghini’s…ummm…Miura is nice but didn’t sell well. The most recent Murcielago is sick but too straight. Don’t get me wrong, I would definitely make space in my garage for any one of these cars, but for now they didn’t make the cut.
I know what you are thinking, “he’s Italian, and he’s going to pick a Ferrari.” Wrong! Although many Ferrari’s are crazy sexy and super fast and look great in any form, there is one car that I think edge out all Ferraris…Drum role…
The Jaguar E-type! Here is why I think this car is the sexiest car made. First, the styling is as good as any Ferrari made, the long hood, elegant cockpit and round rump is perfect. Second is the power. Although the 6 cylinders were nimble enough, when they put that V12 in it, forgetaboutit! That car feels like it has its own turbocharger, supercharger and whatever else you want to kick you in the seat of your pants. Third, it sold well, extremely well and this is where I think it edges out the Ferraris. The only long run Ferrari made was the 308/328/348 and they certainly are not better looking than the E-type. As for the Ferrari’s of the 60’s, they never sold as well as the E-type. Sorry Testa Rossa, sorry 250 GTO, sorry Dino and sorry SWB California. Finally, the E-type looks great in convertible and coupe form.
So there you have it, what I think makes the most beautiful and sexy car in the world. Obviously, many of you will think I am off my rocker, my elevator doesn’t go up to the top floor, my engine is running and nobody’s behind the wheel, I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and that I am a couple cans short of a six-pack.
