This Weeks Announcements!
1) As stated in the title, I will be sending out newsletters now on a weekly basis.  I will try to get them out every Wednesday.  "But Joseph, Today is Friday? Have you been kicking back on Grandpa's old cough medicine?"  I know today is Friday, but I wanted to get this letter out as soon as I could.  I know all of you are sitting at your computer, biting your nails waiting for the next issue of Under The Hood.
2) You may have noticed a little different format this week.  Well, I was not satisfied with my marketing firm so I had to let them go.  I will now be sending out the newsletters myself.  Like I have the time! Yes, I will make the time for my members!
3) Changes to the site.  I have authorized the start of ClassicCarCommuntiy.com phase II, or as I like to call it, version 2.0!  This will include a Car Club Directory, dynamic advertisements, news, news and news. More to come.
4) Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money! $1000 to the Calendar Girl winner! $500 to the best classic ride.  Look to your left!!

And now for the Owners Rant!!
So I'm sitting at a light watching traffic go by and I noticed something.  I noticed something on almost every car I watched go by.  I saw it on a Tahoe, an Expedition, an Escalade, a Magnum and a Jeep Grand Cherokee.  My father was a construction man and taught me that there are three proponents to a successful job, the labor, the materials and your markup (profit if you will).  He was able to do the labor himself, keep the profits and find the materials at half the cost.  So, this thought crossed my mind while I was sitting at that light.  I figured out why the Big 3 are in a world of hurt.  Roof racks.
Obviously their woes are much larger than just roof racks, but go with me here for a second.  Now, I'm assuming that roof racks were popular at one time.  Back when flying was very expensive and parents had the patience to take their kids out on the road for 2 weeks.  What we witnessed was the old man loading up the family truckster and heading out on the highway.  Heading down Route 66 with their luggage strapped to the roof.  They stopped at the Motel 6 for $9 a night and gas was only 25 cents a gallon.  Those were the days.
How much do you think the Big 3 (no not Toyota, Honda and Nissan ;-) would save if they removed all the roof racks?  And only offered them as an option?  And how good would their cars look without those ugly things up there?  Now I'm sure some of you out there would disagree that they are ugly, but for the most part it would clean up the lines.  Actually, I am sending out a challenge for someone to find me the concept car, prototype or whatever, that was initially designed with a roof rack?  Don't think so.
So, as the light turned green, I pressed the gas in my Navigator and pulled into the next gas station and paid $2.89 for premium.  As I filled my tank, I remembered the $59 flight I took to Vegas and the small carry-on that I had.  I looked up and yes I have a roof rack.  I am 100% sure that this roof rack would never be used.  But, if I had the choice….roof rack: DELETE.  I think the Big 3 need just look to the roof rack and go from there.  What else can we eliminate to get costs down?  That worthless cargo net catcher?  Dummy lights? Hub caps? Governors?
Back to Basics GM, Ford and Chrysler…

Back to Basics.

Members Questions
I know a lot of you out there have questions.  Part of my update to the site (remember version 2.0?) is to ask each member what they are very knowledgeable about.  Meaning, " I know alot about Pontiac's, specifically GTO's."  So when a fellow member has a question about their GTO, and it's posted on my site, then the question will be emailed to that specialist...but I'm not there yet.  So, here is the first Members question that I will try to find an answer for:  Jim McDonnel is looking for Chrysler letter cars, click here for his question and click here to see his car!

So there you have it.  I hope you have enjoyed this Newsletter, if not let me know.  And don't just say "You Stink!"  Tell me why I stink. Click here to give feedback!
Thanks everybody!
