Move the heck over! How many of us have seen the sign on the side of the highway that says “Slower Traffic Keep right?” And how many of us have seen that one guy that sits in the far left lane doing 64 mph and is focused only on the 50 feet in front of him? MOVE OVER! Now I admit, I drive fast…very fast. 80 mph to me is normal. I'm sorry. So, it doesn't mean that if you are doing 65mph you can hang out in the left lane. Let's play a game. If Car A is doing 50mph, Car B is doing 80 mph and Car C is doing 74 mph. Which car should be in the left lane? The answer is NONE! Car B should pass up Car C and move back to the right lane. Because when I come barreling down on you doing 184 mph, Car B better be out of my way. Are you picking up what I'm laying down? (Car A shouldn't even be on the highway). Obviously I'm kidding about my speed (I was only doing 145 mph ;-) but my point is, it doesn't matter what speed you are going, IF YOU ARE THE SLOWER CAR, MOVE OVER! One night I closed in on a guy in the left lane. I was doing 85 and he was doing 55, so the first thing is he is not even doing the speed limit L I flashed my high beams…nothing. I flashed again…nothing. I took a 4 D-size battery flash light out of my glove box and I'm practically blinding the poor guy. He starts making hand puppets and I'm getting in to it. “Is that a dog? I think it's a dog!” At any rate, if you see a ball of light coming at you, please MOVE THE HECK OVER!
Five ways to Save on Restoration Costs! OK, where do I start. All of us have watched those restoration shows on SPIKE TV, and TLC. I don't know about you, but I don't have $100,000 worth of tools in my shop. I don't have my own painting both, or a lift, or whatever. I have an air compressor and a set of Craftsman sockets. So, I have compiled the top 5 ways I have saved money when I started restoring my 71 Cutlass. Here is goes. 1) The obvious, do the tear down and assembly yourself. My dad taught me that it takes just as long to do a job right than to do it wrong. So, do it right. Do not cut corners by not doing a full tear down. All it is is your time. And then later you will put it all back together. 2) Rent tools. Everybody thinks they cannot do the job without the tools. Checkers, Autozone whoever rents tools to you. When you are tearing down the car and need to pull the springs out, go get the tool at your local part shop and then return it. 3) This one is huge. Sub contract work out. I don't know how to rebuild an engine or a tranny, so have some else do it. FOR A REASONABLE PRICE. There are shops that will do a full engine for about $1500. Call around, find the best product at the best price. And when you find, POST IT ON THIS SITE UNDER SERVICES. I have been scammed with crappy work and that is why I created this site. Look for warranties and talk to past references. 4) Know what parts should cost. I had my interior done and assumed (you know what's coming next) that the upholstery shop was ordering new panels from OPG or NPD. Nope. I got OK panels done but are not original and certainly not worth what I paid for. 5) Last but not least, be organized. Know the procedure in restoring a car. Buy books from this site, look for advice and have a game plan. A budget can be blown apart if you are not organized.
So there you have it. I hope you have enjoyed this Newsletter. If not, let me know. And don't just say "You Stink!" Tell me why I stink. Click here to give feedback! Thanks everybody!
