MOTOR METRO RETRO tm

ATTENTION! ALL VINTAGE CAR LOVERS!

ADVANCE PUBLIC NOTICE!

THE OLDIES INVADE NYC!

THIS IS THE ULTIMATE CRUISE NIGHT!!!!!

DATE: SATURDAY AUGUST 1, 2015

THE GOAL:

TO CREATE A MAGNIFICENT TIME FOR PARTICIPANTS AND SPECTATORS AND TO CREATE A VISUAL VEHICULAR EXPERIENCE IN NYC LIKE NEVER BEFORE!

THIS IS A ROLLING CAR SHOW!

THE MAIN TIME TO HAVE EVERY AVAILABLE CAR ON THE ROAD AND MOVING IN MANHATTAN IS ON SATURDAY AUGUST 1, 2015 FROM 12 O'CLOCK NOON UNTIL 12 O'CLOCK MIDNIGHT! PARTICIPATE IN ALL OR SOME OF THESE HOURS. PEAK HOURS PREDICTED WILL BE BETWEEN 4PM AND MIDNIGHT. THERE WILL BE NOTHING BUT OLD CARS ON THE STREETS OF THE CITY.

THE BATMOBILE CRUISED THE STREETS OF GOTHAM!

If you own a pre-1980 classic, collectible, muscle car, custom car or hot rod, an old van or pick up truck or a volkswagon (some Model "T's" and "A"'s would be cool too, maybe a Duesenberg?) or something old with class and style and in any working condition please bring your drive able car to Manhattan, New York City on the first weekend in August of 2015, August 1, 2015 (Saturday) for a fun weekend with your car. Slowly cruise the streets of Manhattan as much as you like with your prized vehicle, show it off, it'll be a blast! You are free to go and do whatever you please but if you keep the cars below 57th St. then that will ensure a heavier concentration of classic cars all the way to Canal Street, about 4 miles in length from 57th St. and South to Canal Street and 2 miles wide mostly. The August 1st, 2015 date was chosen as normal NYC traffic is at its annual lightest period in the middle of summer when New Yorkers and suburbanites (who, btw, are invited to attend) with their cars are away on vacation at the shore or in the mountains. The worldwide tourists are still here, and they are pedestrians. Pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks in NYC. When driving, ALWAYS watch for pedestrians especially as the traffic light changes. Drive safely.

The planned grid in Manhattan for this cruise is Canal Street on the Southern border, 57th Street on the Northern border, the Eastern border is the East River (FDR Drive) and the Western border is the Hudson river (12th Avenue/West Side Highway). North to South is almost 4 miles in length and East to West is approximately 2 miles in width. Suggested East-West cross Streets to travel are the 2 way streets. Cruising from South to North they are Canal Street, Delancey Street on the East Side, Houston Street and then 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th Streets from end to end. Use any of the Avenues for traveling North/South or South/North. Bowery on the lower east side is a great 2 way cruisin' street. You can cruise Bleecker Street one way from 9th Avenue and thru the West Village heading East to the end at Bowery. Turn right and bowery is a great 2 way cruisin' street down to Canal Street. Return on Bowery and turn right on Saint Marks Place (8th Street) Eastbound from 3rd avenue and into Alphabet city.
Cruising these suggested streets and avenues will give you the most exposure.
On the North end and out of the main grid, 2 fun streets to cruise are Broadway (Broadway Northbound and 2-way starts at 59th Sreet, Southbound one way Broadway begins at 59th Street) and Park Avenue (2-way), take either or both North to 96th Street, make a U-turn and come back downtown into the grid.
If there is an incredible turnout of cars for this event and so many that huge traffic jams are created, the cruise area will expand South below Canal Street to the tip of Manhattan

Cruise all of the neighborhoods starting from Canal Street and work your way up through Tribeca, Chinatown, The Lower East Side, Little Italy and Soho, through the West Village and over to the East village.
**And when near the East Village stop by and visit me, Don at donnyrecordsnyc record table (VINYL) on the sidewalk outside of the Chase bank on the South East corner of Lafayette Street and Astor Place.
I am the organizer and developer of this event. I assume no liability.
**Am also working on having this event filmed, unofficially or officially, maybe televised, maybe just TV news. I will let you know right here if this becomes official. If you would like to be included cruise your car North on One Way Northbound Lafayette Street from Houston Street starting at 1pm and anytime throughout the afternoon and evening until dark. Filming is planned along Lafayette Street 1/2 mile stretch Northbound from Houston Street to Astor Place. (My record table will be on the last right hand corner of the filming area at Lafayette and Astor, right outside of Chase Bank.) Please do not stop along this stretch of filming for more than a few seconds. Except for the traffic lights of course. Smile and wave to the cameras.
Continue up to Union Square, over to Chelsea, check out Madison Square Garden area, drive by and look straight up at the Empire State Building on 34th street. Cruise straight across 42nd street from the U.N. to the Intrepid Air Craft Carrier in the Hudson River. Continue North on 12th Avenue to 57th Street then turn right and come down Broadway to Times Square. 59th Street (Central Park South) between 5th Avenue and 8th Avenue is also a good cruise block.
Out of the main grid, 2 fun streets to cruise are Broadway (Broadway Northbound and 2-way starts at 59th Sreet, Southbound only one way Broadway begins at 59th Street) and Park Avenue (2-way), take either or both North to 96th Street, make a U-turn and come back downtown into the grid.
Or just drive around aimlessly. If you get lost you can't get lost for long. It's an Island, we will find you.
The above paragraph is a suggestion only. You go wherever you want to. Just try to stay in the cruise grid for best results.

THE INAUGURAL RIDE

Because this is the first time so many old cars are invited to this gathering in NYC and because it is only being advertised amongst car people mostly, this 1st time event will be a total surprise to the majority of NYC people. If this does turn out to become an annual event it may become expected annually. But for this first time it will be a total surprise to New Yorkers for the most part.
Participation in this event is entirely voluntary. You are on your own. You make your own arrangements for travel, hotels, food, day trips. Truck your car in if you have to. There is no telephone number or contact information for this event. There is, however, this face book page notice that will be updated periodically about filming and the weather especially as the event day draws near. There is nothing to sign up for, there are no fees to participate. There is no contest, there are no prizes. Maybe next year.
You are invited to bring your classic car to New York City on the dates stated above and you make your own arrangements, it's as simple as that. You assume all liability. Come here with your classic car that weekend whenever you want to and leave whenever you want to. The goal here is to fill the streets of Manhattan with vintage automobiles on Saturday August 1st 2015 between noon and midnight and maybe to make it an annual event with television coverage.
This is a win-win situation all around. You get to see NYC as part of a massive car show and you get to see everyone else car too, all the while the New Yorkers and the tourists are your main spectators and you're putting on a show for them with your car.
And NYC wins too, being the host of yet another spectacular event. We'll have a blast!

CAR CLUBS CAN ORGANIZE AND MEET ANYWHERE THEY CHOOSE!

Any "meet up places" amongst car owners are entirely informal. Just ask that you don't hang as a club for any real length of time, the idea is to have all cars moving as much as possible. There is/are no designated meeting place(s). Cruising around as a club together would be just fine. Uncork your headers at your own risk. Bring your camera and video recorders.

FOREGO YOUR REGULAR SATURDAY NIGHT LOCAL CAR SHOW IN THE PARKING LOT FOR THIS ONE EXCITING DAY IN NYC. YOU WON'T REGRET IT! TELL YOUR FRIENDS. WE NEED THOUSANDS OF CARS!!

CAR CLUBS: Best if you can organize among yourselves and other clubs.

Please don't be negatively influenced by someone who doesn't want to participate. That's their decision not yours.

THE GOAL:

THE MAIN, PEAK TIME TO HAVE EVERY AVAILABLE CAR ON THE ROAD AND ROLLING IN MANHATTAN IS ON SATURDAY AUGUST 1, 2015 FROM 12 O'CLOCK NOON UNTIL 12 O'CLOCK MIDNIGHT!

THIS WILL BE AN EVENT LIKE NO OTHER!

There are a limited number of gas stations in Manhattan. Just prior to your trip it is suggested that you search for the available gas stations in Manhattan for their locations. Start off with a full tank. Don't forget, you are on your own.
Make certain that your car is in good working order. General parts can be found at a few parts stores in NYC (tires, belts, hoses etc.) but if you have an old car you know that parts for your specific car are sometimes hard to get so be sure that you don't run into that problem. It will probably be a hot day and you may sit in traffic so be sure that your car is not going to overheat. Be Roadworthy.
There are sure to be some temporary (a few hours) street closings on that weekend but these are a non-factor. A couple of street fairs and on Saturday morning Lafayette Street is closed to traffic from 7am until 1pm for the Summer Streets program. Again, search online for NYC street fairs for their locations on that weekend and for schedules. Street fairs end at 6pm. For maps, I recommend Google ® maps.

You may experience a few traffic jams, this is New York City.

Be sure that your car is 100% street legal and that you obey all V&T laws. And parking laws. Tip: Bring lots of quarters, cash and your Credit Card for the "muni-meters" which have replaced the old parking meters.
If you know of someone who has a classic car and would like to participate but is not online to read this advertisement please advise them of this notice.
Your help is needed to spread the word about this event. Tell your friends and tell them to tell their friends etc.
Feel free to copy and paste this notice to wherever you feel it may be effective to spread the word around the Northeast. This event is being advertised online and by word of mouth only. There are no radio, television or newsprint ads for this event. (subject to change) But feel free to print out a few copies of this notice and distribute them locally. Maybe leave copies posted in your local gas/service station, brothel and grocery store.
In the event of a certain, predicted period of bad weather for the target weekend, the event will be held the following weekend (Saturday August 8, 2015) with all of the same details. If it rains on the alternate day Saturday August 8, 2015 then there is a 3rd chance to hold this event. That will be the 3rd Saturday in August, August 15, 2015. If we are unlucky with weather 3 weekends in a row (doubtful) then the event may be rescheduled once again for Saturday August 22nd but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. So it looks like this;
EVENT DATE: SATURDAY AUGUST 1, 2015
RAIN DATE: SATURDAY AUGUST 8, 2015
2nd RAIN DATE: SATURDAY AUGUST 15, 2015
3rd RAIN DATE: SATURDAY AUGUST 22, 2015

THIS EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE!

CHECK THIS PAGE FOR WEATHER UPDATES AS THE EVENT DRAWS NEAR!
If the weatherman only predicts a possible afternoon shower in Summer then the
event will be held and we'll hope for the best. OR, it may be a top 10 weekend.
There are many in the summer in NYC.

REPEAT! THERE IS NO CONTACT INFORMATION.

UPDATES about filming and the weather will be made to this face book page especially as the date gets closer:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/MOTOR-METRO-RETRO-read-the-Original-Notice-below/309729365904014?sk=timeline

OR Go to Face book and type in Motor Metro Retro.

Just show up in NYC with your car and your friends and family on the date specified. It will be one big car party.
Spread the word. Please forward this notice to anywhere that it may be useful. Car magazines, club newsletters, local car shows, car forums, someone you know or know of with an old car.

WE NEED THOUSANDS OF CARS TO CONVERGE ON NEW YORK CITY TO MAKE THIS A VERY SPECIAL EVENT!!!
