Pierce County Rod & Custom Car Association |
Officially organized August 24th 2013 in Tacoma, Washington. The Advisory Committee/Board in alphabetical order are Ken Bradford, Gary Dinwiddie, Bob Jasper, Chuck Johnson, Walt Kaplin, Gary Kroll, Jr. Nelson, Jimmy Olson, Dick Page, Harry Schaffert and Jim Walden. Collectively they have over 600 years of continuous participation in the hobby as founders, organizers and participants. A partial list of their many accomplishments include the following,
Topper’s Car Club 1951 * Demonos Car Club 1957 * Kings Men Car Club 1959 * Grafitti Vintage Car Club 1984 * Washington State Street Rodder’s Hall of Fame 1986-2006 * (now known as the Hot Rod Hall of Fame) * Mild to Wild Car Show 1989-1991 * Northwest Hot Rod & Custom Car Council 1991 * Northwest Automotive Events Calendar 1995 (Annual viewership 5 million+) * Northwest Motorsports Hall of Fame 2008 * BUSCHS Annual Reunion 2011 * RAT-ROD-O’RAMA 2013 * The Demonos and Kings Men Car Clubs have distributed thousands of dollars to various charities and worthwhile causes during their storied 100+ years of operation.
They served their country while in the armed service and now they will be serving the community/Northwest as perhaps no other automotive organization has ever done in the history of the hobby. In my humble opinion, this group of outstanding leaders bring to the community, organizational skills, the highest of ethical and moral standards and a desire to provide the leadership for our young people, the future of the hobby.
Goals and objectives of the association include programs designed to assist high school students organize Car clubs, Safety and Citizenship, establishing Car Shows/Rod Runs, making public appearances promoting the hobby throughout the Northwest, just to name a few. A major project of the organization will be a book that will accurately tell the story about Tacoma, the Cruising Capital of the Northwest during the 50’s and those who made it happen. There will be plenty of photos, stories by those who were a part of Tacoma’s storied history and interviews by Matt Nagle, managing editor of the Tacoma Weekly. The association’s target date for distribution is spring of 2015 or earlier. Anyone who wishes to contribute photos or story’s about the 50’s cruising scene and BUSCHS Drive, should mail any information to Pierce County Rod & Custom Car Association at PO Box 1222 Gig Harbor, WA 98332. Leave a contact telephone number and you will be promptly notified.
Inductees to the Pierce County Rod & Custom Car Hall of Fame will be nominated by the community and not the Association Advisory Committee/Board. This eliminates potential politics, buy-in pressure ect. The association will maintain the very highest of standards, standards that everyone will be proud to be associated with.
Kindest Regards & God Bless
