1968 Pontiac Lemans Generator Light Issue

August 2nd, 2011 06:27:14 pm, posted by Ben Deutschman

Most Idiot Lights as they are sometimes referred to, are wired through the vehicle's Voltage Regulator, and come on when current flow is in discharge status from the Battery through the Voltage Regulator. If you bypass the Regulator, the Light won't come on, you could fry the Battery, and damage other electrical circuits in your car. I'd try replacing the Regulator, and check that the Bulb for the Charge Indicator Light is good. If the Light is good, and you have a known working Regulator in the line between the Alternator and the Battery, then the Light should come on when you turn the Ignition Key to the Accessory position, and go out once the car is started and running, assuming you have a good, fully charged Battery in the car.
