The noise you are discribing sounds like a spark knock. When the spark is to advanced it fires before top dead center . The noise occers when the c\yilnder trys to burn in the up stroke . Very common in the A.
the cure is to reset your timing. Or just don't advance the spark so far. (Short fix only)
