Well, if you were hoping to score the very first production 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 for your garage, I'm sorry to say you're too late. Then again, you most likely didn't have the $3.6 million it took to scoop up this piece of automotive history. Wait, $3.6 million for a new Corvette? Well, you see, this Corvette was sold for charity at the 2022 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Barrett-Jackson has a long history of charity car auctions, and it gives people with the financial muscle a way to score a killer ride for their collection and give back to a worthy cause.
Who Bought The 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 For $3.6 Million?
The winning bidder for the first Z06 was none other than NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick. Hendrick is no stranger to buying cars with the exclusive 001 serial number, but this was $600,000 more than he paid for the first production C8 Corvette two years ago. The full auction sale price of the car will go to the Operation Homefront charity which helps U.S. military families in need. Longtime friend of Barrett-Jackson Michelle Mauzy also donated an additional $100,000, for a total of $3.7 million going directly to Operation Homefront. To date, Barrett-Jackson has helped raise over $144 million for charity.
The C8 Z06 Supercar was unveiled in October 2021 and fields an all-new 5.5-liter LT6 V-8 stuffed with a flat-plane crank and dual overhead camshafts. It makes 670 hp and revs to 8,600 rpm.
Is The Car On Stage The C8 Z06 That Was Sold?
No. The first production C8 Z06 Corvette hasn't been built yet, so the Corvette on stage was a pre-production placeholder. But in a way that's good news for Hendrick since he'll be able to custom-order the 'Vette the way he wants. That involves choosing between 12 different exterior colors and seven different interior and wheel packages. The new Z06 is one of the most customizable Corvettes ever and Hendrik will be able to pick whatever he feels best fits into his massive car collection.
