KISSIMMEE - The Mecum classic car auction held Jan. 22-24 at Kissimmee's Osceola Heritage Park took in $16.5 million in gross sales, which was up from $15.2 million in 2008.
Auction attendance was up 51 percent over last year.
"We're declining to participate in this recession," said Dana Mecum, president of Mecum Auctions.
Mecum had been expecting to sell between 40 percent and 50 percent of the 750 vehicles offered, but 58 percent were sold.
